If you live in the Liberty Hill area and like to shoot guns, check out Lonestar Range & Academy. They are located on Highway 183 just north of Liberty Hill (they have a Florence address).
Our family had the opportunity to head over there yesterday for a little pistol practice and I wanted to share about our experience. When we arrived at Lonestar Range & Academy, we checked in and signed the appropriate wavers at the front office and paid a minimal fee ($15 per adult and $10 per youth).
Before you go, make sure you bring:
- Ear protection
- Eye protection
You can now purchase ammo, but it’s always good to have your own. You can also purchase targets onsite.
Lonestar Range & Academy is undergoing a bit of a transformation. The normal pistol range is being updated and upgraded, widening it, and making it better for more people. Safety is HUGE at Lonestar and with good reason. People are shooting with live ammo and safety MUST be of paramount importance in order for everyone to have a good time…and to leave without incident. Although Johnny and James have been here before, this was the first time Lauren and I had been here. I found it to be a very safe environment. There was plenty of room for all of us and while it was occasionally loud from other shooters, I felt safe.
I had a chance to meet with one of the owners and learned a lot about this facility and his background. Owned by Tony Lacoste and his wife. They firmly believe in every citizen’s right to bear arms and offer a variety of classes for rifles and pistols. By the way, Tony is a retired police officer (and apparently also makes a killer brisket).
So, even if you want to learn and don’t have anyone to teach you, you now have a place to go.
If you’re interested in getting your CHL (concealed handgun license), Lonestar Range & Academy offers classes ONSITE with lunch provided. The classroom is located in a building and for the shooting portion of the class, you walk right outside to the range and take that portion of the test. It’s a beautiful concept and can be finished in an afternoon. Their License to Carry Course is $90. The next course is scheduled for Saturday, November 11th at 9 am. Only 8 seats per class. You can get more details on their website (scroll down to the bottom of the home page to see their calendar).
What I also appreciate about this gun range, is that it is a full service range and certified training academy and it’s staffed with Texas and NRA certified instructors.
Check out Lonestar Range & Academy for yourself. You won’t be disappointed. By the way, when you head out that way, if you pass the 12′ shotgun shell you’ve gone too far. It’s the easiest way to find them. Look for the red shotgun shell!
